The Stegosaurus was completed on 6.18.2011. I was inspired by visit to the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History and the re-opening of the mammals exhibition. I had also befriended the esteemed paleoartist Carl Buell, who created the rough sketch on which this drawing is based on. I don't know, of course, what color they were, so I just guessed and went with green and orange, which I think work fairly well.
Stegosaurus s a genus of stegosaurid armored dinosaur from the Late Jurassic period. It lived in areas that are now western North America. The name means 'roof lizard.' Stegosaurus, one of the many dinosaurs first collected was originally named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1877 from remains recovered from a dig north of Morrison, Colorado. These were very large animals, Averaging around 30 feet (9 meters) long and 14 feet tall (4 meters.) They were herbivores who fed exclusively on plant materials.
