The Velociraptor was completed on 12.13.2010. As with the other dinosaurs, noted paleoartist Carl Buell designed the foundation illustration underneath the ink and digital tinting. As with other extinct animals, there's no real scientific agreement on just what the patterns and colors of the animals were, so the illustrator has to take his or her best guess. I tend to prefer more muted, earthy tones when rendering the hide of the animal.
The Velociraptor is a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that existed approximately 75 to 71 million years ago during the later part of the Cretaceous Period. It is believed to have been a bi-pedal predator, possibly with feathers (although this is in dispute) The extinct animal became part of pop culture when it was prominently featured in the movie 'Jurassic Park.' Although some scientists have pointed out the portrayal of Velociraptor was filled with inaccuracies, not the least of which was the size, when the fossil record makes it clear the animal was about the size of a modern day turkey.
