The Appaloosa Horse was completed on 8.31.2012. I've made it through the half-way point of the state animals, so now I'm starting to get to animals - both domestic and wild - that perhaps I might not have drawn otherwise. I do love drawing horses, and I'm glad the state horse of Idaho is the Appaloosa, otherwise I'd probably never have drawn one.
The Appaloosa Horse is a breed of equine that comes in a variety of coat patterns, usually described as a leopard complex pattern, with such beautiful names as Snowflake, Mottled, Roan Blanket and Frost. There are also several colors recognized by the Appaloosa Horse Club (formed in 1938) including Bay, Black, Chestnut, Palamino and gray. It is one of the most popular breeds of horses in the US and found all around the world. It is the official horse of the state of Idaho.
