The Beagle was completed on 1.22.2012. Slowly, I'm beginning to add more and more dog breeds to the image library. Of course, I'm starting with some of the more iconic breeds, which the beagle clearly is one. I'm not very familiar with these charming dogs, save for living next to a pair, which would often wind themselves up into a howling frenzy! But they were sweet dogs and I miss them. The drawing of the beagle is based on a photo by my Flickr friend Teano
The Beagle is a smaller breed of dog belonging to the hound group. It looks very much like a Fox Hound, but is smaller, shorter and the beagle's ears are softer. These loveable dogs are scent hounds. They were bred mostly to track small game like hare and fox. It is believed these dogs have been around some 2,000 years, but the modern beagle can be traced back to the UK in the 1830's. They are perhaps best known for their use on fox hunts England. Which, with the development of the nation and fewer open areas, along with popular opinion turning against such events, has lessened their use in this manner. They remain a very popular dog breed to own, and are known for their loyalty to their owners. Because beagles were trained to howl then locating game, they are less than ideal pets for those living in cities.
