The Boxer was completed on 1.25.2012. When looking for reference photos, I always have a very clear idea of what I want the image to look like. When drawing the boxer, I wanted it to match the other poses of the dogs I've already drawn; from the side, eye level and the entire body showing. I found a great image, but had to track it down to a outdoor online forum in Alberta, Canada. At this point, the boxer is the fifth drawing I've completed of domestic dogs, and I'll probably draw about 5-10 more. Drop me an email if you have a suggestion for another breed of dog to draw.
The dog breed Boxer was developed in Germany. They were bred from the English Bulldog and Bullenbeisser (now extinct) and is part of the Molosser group which is a category of large, solidly-built dogs. They are larger, stocky dog with short-hair. The coat is usually either brindled or fawn with white patches on the underside covering the belly and much of the legs, or mostly white. Boxers are brachycephalic, which means they have short, broad skulls. Boxers have very strong jaws which can inflict a very painful bite or keep a tight hold on prey. With their loyalty, good disposition, gentleness and protectiveness of their owner, boxers make pets, and are the seventh most popular dog breed in the US.
