Artist's notes:

The Dalmatian was completed on 1.14.2012. This is the second domestic dog breed I've completed. I knew when I started drawing dogs, the Dalmatian would be one of the first I'd want to draw, because they are one of the most iconic dog breeds there is. And when working in ink, the more monochromatic the subject the stronger the final drawing usually is. The illustration is based on a photo by Paul Tester, who is the official photographer for the The British Carriage Dog Society.

Information about the Dalmatian:

The Dalmatian is a breed of dog thought to have it's origin in Dalmatia, a region of Croatia. With the whiite coat and black spots it is one of the more iconic and easily recognizable dog breeds in the world. This is due in large part to the famous movies by Disney, along with the dog's historical role in the American firehouses as well as being used as the Anheuser-Busch Dog. Dalmatians are intelligent, playful and energetic dogs and are popular as pets. However, like other purebreds, they do have some health issues that can come up such as deafness, arthritis and bone spurs.
