The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was completed on 2.8.2012. Since meeting my first corgi - on my friend's farm in southern Minnesota - I have been fascinated and enamored by the breed. So much so, that when it was my time to pick out a dog I went with the breed (well, a corgi mix I named 'Escher' after the illustrator who has had such a large influence on my work.) Since that time, these charming, loveable dogs have become my favorite. The drawing is based on a photo by Warren Lynn - another corgi fancier!
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a member of the herding breed of domestic dogs. They were developed in Pembrokeshire, Wales area of the UK, and their lineage can be traced back as far as 1107 AD. It is one of two breeds of corgi (the other being the Cardigan Welsh Corgi.) They are one of the smallest breeds in the group of herding dogs. They are noted as being one of the preferred breed of British royalty, and the favorite dog of Queen Elizabeth II, who owns many of them. They are friendly dogs, ranked very high in intelligence and are very popular as pets and make excellent working dogs too. They are not large, being only about 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm) tall from their feet to the tops of their shoulders.
