The drawing of the Cathedral of Saint Paint was completed in 1993. It is based on photos and sketches I made that summer. I believe this cathedral to be one of the most striking I have even seen, as the location - on top of a large hill with no other buildings to obscure it - it the foundation of that beauty. So many cathedrals, out of necessity or the fact that towns sprouted up around them, it is hard to more than one part of the cathedral, and certainly not a 360 view that this building affords it's viewers.

The Cathedral of Saint Paul, also called the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, is a Classical Revival styled church in the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was built upon a large hill (called Cathedral Hill) looking over the downtown area of Saint Paul and across the 94 Interstate Highway towards the Minnesota State Capitol. It was designed by the prominent architects Emmanuel Louis Masqueray and Whitney Warren, after Archbishop John Ireland directed it's building on the site. Masqueray himself died in 1917, and only managed to complete a handful of designs of the interior. The design was inspired by French Renaissance architecture. The large dome reaches a height of 186 feet (57 meters) with a diameter of 76 feet (23 meters). Much of the materials for the cathedral came from nearby towns in Minnesota. The exterior walls are granite from Saint Cloud, and the interior walls are American Travertine, from Mankato. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
