The American Goldfinch was completed on 12.5.2010. Goldfinches are such lively and beautiful songbirds. I added an illustration of a goldfinch to Laura Erickson's book '101 Ways to Help Birds' perched on a birdfeeder. They have so much character and they stand out at a birdfeeder. The drawing is based on a photo by talented wildlife photographer Les Piccolo.
The American Goldfinch, also sometimes called the Eastern Goldfinch or Wild Canary, is a migratory bird ranging from Southern Canada through the US to North Carolina. During the breeding season the finches move southwards into Mexico. It is an adaptive bird, and can be found in many environments such as meadows, fields, orchards, forests, farmlands and urban environments. They are a popular birdfeeder and common visitor.
