The Black and White Warbler illustration was completed on 9.27.2011. Occasionally, when a client approaches me with a potential project they'll provide a list of plates they'll need. Often, as with the Black & White Warbler, I was actually unaware of this beautiful species of songbird. So, before the project is even begun, I'll crank out a drawing of the animal. That way, should it go forward I already have the image completed. If the project doesn't go forward (which happens - frequently) at worst I've added another beautiful songbird to the image library. The drawing is based on a photo by Roy Brown Photography.
The Black & White Warbler is a small species of New World Warbler, found throughout the eastern parts of North America during the summer, migrating to Central and South America during the winter. They are usually found in primary and secondary deciduous forests, as well as parks, gardens and open lawn areas with trees. This Passerine bird forages for insects while creeping up and down along the branches and trunks of trees. The bird has an unusually long hind toe and claw on each foot, which helps them cling to the tree bark. Unlike other songbirds, the Black and White Warbler can be very aggressive and will sometimes attack and fight with other birds.
