This drawing of a Blue Morpho was created in 2007. It was a challenge to capture the iridescence of the wings without making it look artificial. The color of these butterflies really is striking. I saw a few in the rainforests of Costa Rica. When they are resting they fold up their wings and are hard to see in the forest undergrowth. But when they're disturbed they 'pop' up with a brilliant flash of metallic blue.
