bottlenose dolphin

bottlenose dolphin thumbThe Bottlenose Dolphin line art drawing was completed in 2004 as part of a series of three dolphins. The digital tinting was added in 2007. The image was touched up in 2008 and the background dropped in. Since the time the drawing was completed, dolphins have become a favorite subject, and I hope to one day complete all extant species.

Information about the Bottlenose Dolphin:

Bottlenose (sometimes called 'Bottlenosed) Dolphins have a short and stubby beaks and are found in warm temperate and tropical oceans and seas worldwide. They can grow to be 12 feet long, sometimes weighing more than 1400 pounds. They have a larger brain than those of humans and show a high degree of intelligence. They swim at speeds of approximately 12 miles per hour. The Bottlenose is the official water mammal of the state of Mississippi.
