The Brush Rabbit illustration was completed on 7/27/2009. This is a re-do from an earlier version. As always, the fur can cause some problems, but if the ink stippling is relatively 'soft' the digital tinting added afterwards results in a fairly accurate depiction. I've also rendered an Arctic Hare and recently added the Black-Tailed Jackrabbit.
The Brush Rabbit - also called the Western Brush Rabbit - is a cottontail rabbit native to the western coastal regions of North America. These mammals prefer environments with dense vegetation to provide cover. They do not dig their own burrows, but instead will use burrows that other animals have dug or live in piles of brush. They are among the smallest of the cottontail rabbits, generally growing to about 11-14 inches long and weighing less than two pounds. Like all rabbits it is a herbivore feeding on grasses, flowering plants and berries.
