The Bull Moose drawing was a real bear (so to speak.) I didn't think the tinting would take more than a few hours to complete, but then I realized the moose's fur isn't just brown - it's a brown that darkens to black, and a black that's so dark it's a purpleish-blue. I spent about 5 hours grappling with the color and texture of the moose's coat and how it should be rendered. I think the results are satisfactory.
Moose (called Elk in Europe) typically inhabit mixed deciduous forest of the Northern Hemisphere, ranging in areas of temperate to subarctic climates. In North American moose are found in many parts of Canada as well as Alaska, part of New England and the upper Rocky Mountains. In Europe they are found in Scandinavia and in areas of the Baltic states. Moose are very large mammals, standing 6-7 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing over 1000 pounds. Moose the the second largest land animal in North America (behind the Bison) and the largest in Europe. The Moose is the official state animal of Alaska and Maine.
