The Common Side-Blotched (or Side-Splotched) Lizard is a small species of reptile common on the Pacific coast of North America, from Washington to western Texas and northwestern Mexico. These lizards inhabit semi-desert grasslands and interior chaparral. It is a diurnal animal active at any time of the year but winter activity is usually restricted to sunny, warm days. To avoid the excessive heat during the summer it is most active mid morning and late afternoon. It primarily feeds on insects and other invertebrates such as scorpions, grasshoppers and spiders.
