Information about the Common Water Strider:Water striders - called 'Pond Skaters' in some areas - live on the surface of ponds, slow streams, marshes, and other still or slow moving waters. They feed on dead and living insects on the water's surface. They have excellent vision, and can move very quickly. The water strider's long middle legs help move it across the surface of the water like paddles. The hind legs are used to steer, and also act as brakes. The short front legs are used to catch prey. | Description: Fine art illustration of a Common Water Strider or Pond Skater.
