The caracara was drawn in about 2004 I think and the color added in 2007. I love the pose of this bird of prey. I have never seen one in the wild, but I did observe one at a rescue center in Austin, Texas.
The Crested Caracara is sometimes called the 'Mexican Eagle'. But is more like a something between a falcon and a vulture of the tropics. It has long legs and is a medium-sized bird of prey with a wingspan of about 48 inches. It ranges from the extreme Southwestern US down through Central America into northern parts of South America. It is the national bird of Mexico.
