The Desert Banded Gecko was completed on 7.21.2009. I was overdue to create another gecko illustration I seeing as I'm trying to draw animals from my adopted California the Desert Banded seemed like a good choice. Geckos, and lizards in general, are always fun to draw. I think I got the coloration down for this handsome reptile.
The Desert Banded gecko is a small reptile generally active at night. During the day it tends to hide under rocks, in crevices or rodent burrows to keep out of the sun. They can be found in the Mojave and Sonoran desert areas of the American southwest into the northern Mexico and the Baja peninsula. They prefer sandy or rocky semi-arid environments as well as pinyon-juniper woodlands. Like other geckos the Desert Banded's tail can break off when threatened to grow back later.
