The Desert Iguana drawing was completed on 12.13.2010. The drawing was made after a suggestion by my friend Carlos who works at the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley. I noted there was a pretty large variance in coloration from light to dark in these lizards, but I thought the morphs with the darker, red-browish markings were more interesting.
The Desert Iguana is a common lizard that lives in the dry, sandy desert regions of the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts of southwestern North America. Adults grow to be 16" inches (41 cm) long. This lizard is diurnal that can be active in during the hottest part of the day, although it will also seek out shade to avoid overheating. This reptile feeds on vegetation, such as the flowers of the creosote bush, it will also feed on small insects and occasionally carrion. Is not not considered endangered.
