This is another 're-do' of the dart frog variety. This is a favorite of mine because I feel I really captured the quality and texture of the skin. Poison arrow frogs are perhaps my favorite subject, and they were a big reason I traveled to the rainforests of Costa Rica. Both the line art version and the digital tinting were completed in 2008. The drawing is based on a photo by Bill Hughes.
The Dyeing Poison Dart Frog inhabits small isolated pockets in French Guinea and northeastern Brazil. They are bright blue with two broad yellow stripes on the back. This is a large poison dart frog reaching lengths of about two inches. There is quite a bit of variation in size and color. Dendrobatids are brightly colored, which serves to warn potential predators.
