The Elegant Trogon was completed on 8.20.09. The original drawing was completed in 2007 for the book '101 Ways to Help Birds' by Laura Erickson. I saw these lovely birds while visiting Costa Rica. They have a low, cooing - co-ah co-ah co-ah - sound that is repeated over and over.
The Elegant Trogon is a brightly colored parrot-sized bird. This tropical bird was formerly known as the "Coppery-tailed" Trogon. It can be found in the lower US in the extreme southern parts of Texas and Arizona, central Mexico and from the tropical areas into Central America. This bird prefers mountain forests, pine-oak or sycamore canyons. They feed mostly on insects and fruits, but will occasionally feed on small lizards.
