This was the first animal I had ever drawn. I was a little nervous going into it, as I had spend several years drawing buildings and other non-organic forms. I think it's an image that has held up fairly well. The original line art drawing was done while I was living in Germany in 1998 and the color added in 2007.
Giant Pandas live in the temperate-zone bamboo forests of central China. Pandas have round heads, stocky bodies and short tails. They stand between two and three feet tall at the shoulder (on all four legs), and reach four to six feet long. Although a panda’s diet consists almost entirely of bamboo, they will also eat flowers, vines, mushrooms, grass and even fish and small rodents. They are one of the most endangered animals on the planet.
