The Great Hammerhead Shark was completed on 9.2.2009. I have loved these wonderful fish for many years. Their unique head shape makes them a somewhat challenging subject. The drawing is based on a photo by Amanda Pippin.
The Great Hammerhead Shark is the largest of the hammerheads, growing on avergage to be about 11-12 feet long. The largest on record, however, reached an amazing 20 feet long. This shark can be found in tropical and warm waters around the world. Like other apex predators, the Great Hammerhead is a solitary and nomadic hunter. The shark is an opportunistic feeder and will prey on crabs, lobsters, squid, octopus and fish. While potentially dangerous, the Great Hammerhead rarely attacks humans.
