The Green Anaconda was completed on 7.21.2010. Snakes continue to be a challenge to me. Again, the symmetry of the scale patterns must be kept nearly perfect, or the drawing tends to fall apart. The drawing is based on a photo by Edgar Ortega, who is also a member of San Francisco Bay Area Tarantula Society - this is his pet.
The Green Anaconda - also called the Common Anaconda or Water Boa - is a very large reptile and member of the family Boidae. They are the most massive of all the world's snakes, although the Reticulated Python is longer. Generally, it's believed these snake can grow to be about 20 feet long, although there are reports of them approaching 30 to 40 feet, but these accounts haven't been verified scientifically. These serpents are found in much of the swampy forested areas of the South American rainforest. They have been introduced into south Florida and have established themselves there, where they are considered to be a dangerous invasive species. Despite their size and their reputation in movies, there have been no documented attacks on humans.
