The Halloween Pennant Dragonfly was part of a series of three dragonflies I drew in 2004 (color was added a few years later.) I ditched one of them due to quality problems, but kept the other - a Cardinal Meadowhawk Dragonfly. Unlike some of the others I've drawn, this dragonfly has a lovely orange tint to it's wings.
Halloween Pennant Dragonflies are part of the genus Celithemis. They have a very distinctive wing pattern from which the coloration of orange and brown gives them their name. Their range is in the Eastern US where they live near ponds and marshes. They prey on other insects and can often be seen hunting for them in open fields and grassy areas.
