The House Wren illustration was completed on 6.21.2010. It is based on some sketches I did for a commission back in about 2003, but going back over that drawing, I decided it didn't really capture the bird's energy and spirit, and was a little drab and flat. I redesigned the sketch and this is what I came up with, which I feel has more energy in it.
The House Wren - also called the Jenny Wren - is a songbird of the Passeriformes order. They are smaller birds, growing up to 4.5 to 5.5 inches long and a wingspan of from 6 to 7 inches. Weight ranges from 10 to 13 grams. This House Wren's cheerful and lovely song is commonly heard during the nesting season but rarely afterwards. The House Wren occurs across Canada and North America southward through Central America to the southern tip of South America. House Wrens feed on insects, spiders, snails and other small invertebrates.
