Artist's notes:

indigo bunting thumbThe Indigo Bunting illustration was completed on 6.11.09. This drawing was completed at the request of a private client, who was interested in taking some of the blue birds I had rendered and creating a series of framed prints to hang. The drawing is based on a photo by David Cree.

Information about the Indigo Bunting:

The Indigo Bunting is a small, seed-eating songbird that ranges from southern Canada to northern Florida. It prefers to inhabit farmland, brush areas and open woodlands, near the edges of forests. It occasionally will interbred with the Lazuli Bunting to create a hybrid, but only where their territories overlap. It is an opportunistic feeder, taking seeds but also eating small invertebrates during the breeding season. During the winter season the Indigo Bunting heads to Central and northern parts of South America.
