The Kit Fox was completed on 7.11.2010. Of all the mammals, there's few I enjoy drawing more than the fox. Their intelligent expression, their wonderfully colored fur, and generally large ears make for great subject matter. I had drawn an earlier version of the Kit Fox, but it lacked character so I decided to re-draw it. The illustration is based on a photo by http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnn/
The Kit Fox is the smallest member of the family Canidae in North America. They are mostly nocturnal animals, usually venturing out after sunset to hunt small mammals such as rabbits, voles, prairie dogs, as well as lizards, insects and ground dwelling birds. They will also scavenge carrion and, when food is scarce, they will eat fruit and vegetables. The Kit Fox generally lives in scrubby desert, chaparral and open grasslands of the arid regions of the southwestern United States and into Northern Mexico. But when conditions are right and easy meals can be had they will venture into towns and other urban areas.
