The Lagoon Triggerfish was completed on 5.1.2010. Last year I received my certification in SCUBA. I did this on the big island of Hawaii. One of the reef fish I really was amazed by was the Lagoon Triggerfish. I made a promise to myself to draw one of these beautiful fish when I was able. The drawing is based on a photo by Joachim S. Mueller.
The Lagoon Triggerfish - also called the Blackbar triggerfish, the Picasso Fish and Jamal, is a vividly colored medium-sized reef fish, growing up to just less than one foot in length (30 cm.) The Hawaiian name for the fish is humuhumunukunukuāpua‘a - which means roughly fish with pig-nosed face. It is also the state fish of Hawaii. They feed on smaller fish, crustaceans, coral sea urchins. They are popular aquarium fish.
