I believe the line art version of the Leopard Tortoise was completed in about 2005 (for some reason I didn't sign and date it, which frustrates me sometimes that I can spend so many hours on the drawing and yet not another 3 seconds to sign it!) and the digital tinting added in 2007. The digital tinting was redone, by request of a private client - the person who put together the 'Crossing Sign' stickers - on 9.8.2009.
The Leopard Tortoise is a large tortoise native to the savannas of Africa. It ranges from Sudan to the southern Cape. It is a grazing species of chelonian that can generally be found in semi-arid and grassland areas. It will also feed on other plants, including prickly pear cactus and other succulents. Due to the attractive pattern on it's shell and ease of care this tortoise is often kept as a pet. Thanks to captive breeding programs there is less demand for species caught in the wild, and in areas of Africa where their numbers were dwindling they are now starting to recover.
