The Long-Nosed Leopard Lizard was completed on 2.05.10. I've seen these handsome lizards in the desert of California and always wanted to draw one. The wonderful patterns and coloration makes for great subject matter. The drawing is based on a photo by Cameron Rognan
The Long-Nosed Leopard Lizard is a medium to large sized reptile native to the arid and semi-arid areas of the Western US down into northern Mexico and down the Baja peninsula. They prefer desert flats and dry bushy areas with sparse vegetation. As these reptiles are diurnal they're often seen basking on rocks, followed by hunting and feeding. The Leopard Lizard eats smaller lizards, insects and even rodents. When threatened, the lizard will run under a bush, flatten it's body and 'freeze' until the threat is gone.
