The Long-Tailed Field Mouse line art was line art version was completed in 2007. The digital tinting was added on 3.4.2011. My friend Melissa, for years, asked me to draw a field mouse. I do try and abide by requests, especially from friends, but the timing was never quite right for a mouse illustration. Finally, she had had enough and commissioned an image for a gift to her sister.
The Long-Tailed Field Mouse - also called a Wood Mouse - is a common rodent found in Europe (Scandinavia and east to the Ukraine) some parts of Northwestern Africa as well as many islands in the Mediterranean. This field mouse is often found in forests, grasslands, and as the name implies cultivated fields. Like other mice, Apodemus sylvaticus is primarily a seed eater, but will also eat small invertebrates like snails and insects. As a curious habit while foraging, the mouse will pick up and distribute visually conspicuous objects, such as leaves and twigs, which they then use as landmarks during exploration.
