Artist's notes:

malayan flying fox thumbThe Oakland Zoo has an amazing new enclosure with these large bats in it. They are truly incredible looking animals with intelligent and - dare I say - cute faces? I did some sketches of these bats and worked up the image from a photo a friend took. I think the results are not bad.

Information about the Malayan Flying Fox:

Malayan Flying Foxes are one of the largest bats in the world. They live in the tropics and subtropics of Asia, Australia and Oceania. All species of flying foxes feed on nectar, blossom, pollen, and fruit - which explains their limited tropical distribution.. They do not possess echolocation. Instead eyesight are very well-developed in flying foxes to locate food.
