malayan horned frog

Artist's notes:

malayan horned frog thumbAnother bizarrely beautiful frog. These frogs with their characteristic 'eye hoods' are spectacular. The Malayan Horned Frog was part of a series of five frogs I started in 2005 (it was completed and digital tinting was added in 2008.)

Information about the Malayan Horned Frog:

The Malayan Horned Frog, also called the Asian Horned Frog, Asian Spadefoot Toad or the Javan Horned Frog, lives in the leaf litter in the dense tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and Indonesia, including Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines. They have developed through evolution the body color to blend into the dead leaves where they live. Generally the frogs remain motionless unless they are disturbed or feel threatened.
