This drawing of a pair of Mallards was commissioned to be part of an (as yet) unpublished field guide for the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. UPDATE 2.2.12: It appears, now, that the finished guide might now be going to print. Will post a link here when/if it does.
The Mallard is what's called a 'dabbling duck.' It lives and breed throughout the temperate and sub-tropical areas of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia. It is believe to be one of the ancestors of all domestic ducks. It is a highly adaptable bird, living in wetlands, lakes and ponds, along rivers and streams and even in urban areas such as parks, farms and golf courses.
