The meerkat drawing was based upon photos and studies done at the meerkat enclosure at the Oakland Zoo. Fur can be tricky to rendered with the style that I do - especially when it has several different tones and colors as the coat of a meerkat does - but I think
Meerkats are small, burrowing mammals that live on the plains of southern Africa. They are a type of desert-adapted, cooperative animals related to the mongoose. Meerkats live in groups of up to 25 animals (called a "mob" or "gang"). They are fiercely territorial and usually stay very close to their underground burrows where they live. One meerkat will stand watch in order to warn the group with a shrill cry when a dangerous predator approaches. Adults at about one year of age weigh around 2 pounds.
