The Mink Frog was completed on 1.19.10. Mink Frogs are pretty neat amphibians, and camping in my youth in northern Minnesota I'd come across these guys. A few years back in a trip to the Boundary Water's Canoe Area I was happy to see Mink Frogs all over the place. The drawing is based on a photo by Pierson Hill.
The Mink or North Frog is a small amphibian native to the northern areas of North America. They are called Mink Frogs for their scent, which is like that of a mink (although the smell has also been likened to that of rotting onions.) They grow to about 2-3 inches long, and are generally olive green in color with brownish black splotches on the backs, legs and arms. The bellies are usually white or cream colored. These frogs are rarely found far from water. They prefer to live in and around lakeshores in close proximity to lily pads and other vegetation that can provide cover in case of danger. They feed mostly on snails, insects and other invertebrates.
