The Mongolian Wild Ass was completed on 7.4.2012. I have become Facebook friends with the chairwoman and research director of the Association of Goviin Khulan , which is an organization that is involved in protecting the endangered Mongolian Khulan and its habitat. There are several wild horses in the world, and most of them are endangered or otherwise threatened. I hope to use this image to help raise awareness and fund for this group (25% of all sales will be donated to them)
The Mongolian Wild Ass or Donkey, also called the Khulan or Kulan, is a member of the family Equidae. They are found in remote regions of Mongolia and Northern China. At one time it was also found in Kazakhstan, but the animal was extirpated due to hunting. Because of ongoing poaching, hunting and competition from domestic livestock for food the number of these wild equines has continued to decline to the point of where the entire species itself is in danger of extinction. Several conservation groups are working to preserve the species, although due to the remoteness of the Khulan's habitat this can be a very challenging undertaking.
