The Pig Frog was completed on 9.9.09. Frogs will always be close to my heart, and my favorite subject to draw. I wasn't familiar with this species, but as I draw more and more of the frogs native to North America, I have to dig deeper into the less common species. The drawing is based on a photo by Jake Scott.
The Pig Frog - also sometimes called the Lagoon Frog or Southern Bullfrog - is an aquatic amphibian found on the edges of lakes, swamps and marshes. They get their name from their distinctive pointed and pig like nose. They feed on nearly anything they can swallow such as invertebrates, crustaceans, fish and amphibians. Despite the overall decline of many of the world's amphibians, the Pig Frog's numbers seem fairly stable and they're common in their range.
