The inked version of the Radiated Tortoise was completed in 2004 and the coloring added digitally in 2007. This was one of the first tortoises I completed.
The Radiated Tortoise belongs to the genus of the Astrochelys. They are fairly large, with a carapace that can grows up to 16 inches and weigh 35 pounds. They are considered to be among the most beautiful tortoises in the world. This reptile has a very limited range, restricted mostly to southern parts of Madagascar, along with some nearby islands. They are considered endangered due to poaching and habitat destruction. The name comes from the radiating pattern on it's shell.
