The Red-Eared Slider drawing was completed in 2007, when the digital tinting was added. The black and white line art version was drawn in 2003. The drawing is based on a photo by Bill Love.
The Red-Eared Slider is a semi-aquatic turtle belonging to the family Emydidae. It is a native of the southern United States. These turtles are almost completely aquatic, but leave the water to bask on hot sunny days. They are aware of predators and people and will generally shy away from them sliding off rocks and logs when approached - hence the name. The red-eared slider has been released into many areas of the US that they are not native to and are considered invasive species.
