The Red Fox was part of a series of drawing commissioned to be part of a field guide for the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. Unfortunately, the guide was shelved and it's unclear if it will ever be published. At least several good drawings like this one came from it.
The Red Fox is a mammal of the order Carnivora. It has the widest range of any terrestrial carnivore being native to Canada, Alaska, almost all of the contiguous United States, Europe, North Africa and nearly all of Asia. This fox is usually recognized by its reddish coat, its white- tipped tail, and black “stockings.” The Red Fox measures 22 -32 inches in head and body length, and the tail is 14-16 inches long. It is the official land animal of the state of Mississippi.
