The Red-Headed Poison Dart Frog was part of a series of four dart frogs drawn in 2005. The digital tinting was added in 2007. Poison Dart Frogs are and will always be a favorite subject. I traveled to Costa Rica with the hopes of seeing Dendrobates in the wild, which I was able to do.
The Red-headed Poison Frog is an amphibian of the Dendrobatidae family. It is native to the tropical and subtropical lowland forests of Peru. This species of dart frog has a wide variation of color and pattern, depending on the geographical region. Like other poison dart frogs, Dendrobates fantasticus are often kept as pets, and do well in captivity.
