This is another drawing that was a 're-do.' I love red-tailed hawks and drawing them (or re-drawing as the case may be) is a pleasure. Birds of prey have always been a favorite subject of mine, not only to drawn but observe and learn about. I have some plans to draw some more hawks, but at this time I haven't decided on the exact species. Let me know you have a suggestion! The drawing is based on a photo by Jonathan Wisner
Red-Tailed Hawks are members of the genus Buteo. This raptor is common in North and Central America and are often seen in large cities as well as in rural areas and wilderness areas such as forests, deserts, grasslands and tropical rainforests. They are a medium sized bird of prey with a wingspan of about 50 inches. The plumage of red-tailed hawks can be variable depending on the region and subspecies. These are called 'morphs.'
