Artist's notes:
The Ring-Necked Pheasant was completed on 11.30.10. This is one of those 'of course' birds - which when I thought about it, it seems obvious that I should render one. I recall my older brother going hunting for these handsome birds. The drawing is based on a photo by Victor Hsu.
Information about the Ring-Necked Pheasant:
The Ring-Necked or Common Pheasant is native to the Caucasus and Russian regional of Asia. Although it is more familiar to people as an introduced game bird in many areas of the world such as Europe and America. It is a medium sized bird, weighing up to about six pounds (3 kg) While the bird can fly for short distances, it generally prefers to run when threatened. Despite the fact the pheasant isn't native to the area, is the state bird of South Dakota.
