The Rose-Haired was a tricky drawing because of the lighting that really brought out the color in the hair. Generally, the actual pinkish-red of the hair isn't quite so pronounced. But the angle of the light really made the color jump out and the drawing reflected this. The drawing is based on a photo by Dominic Niebauer
This tarantula (also known as the 'Chilean Flame tarantula' or the 'Chilean Red-Haired tarantula' is native to the northern part of the Atacama Desert in Chile - which is the driest desert on the planet. These spiders are very popular in the pet trade, which has unfortunately caused their numbers in the wild to decline somewhat. They are nevertheless not considered endangered at this time.
