The Rough Knob-tailed gecko was commissioned by my friend Roman, who happens to be one of the nation's top breeders of fat-tailed geckos. He loaned me the gecko so I could take photos and do some sketches. Only afterwards did he tell me how much these lizards can cost - hundreds of dollars! I'm glad he didn't run away while I was sketching him.
The Rough Knob tailed gecko is part of the Nephrurus genus of geckos. This genus includes eleven different species of geckos. They are share a similar body type including a large head, short legs and body and a very distinctive fat tail that often ends in a small knob. They are native to the dry, arid regions of central Australia and are very popular in the reptile pet trade.
