The Short-Beaked Common Dolphin was completed on 9.5.2010. Dolphins are fun to draw, and it wasn't until I started rendering them did I realize the different patterns and colors they can have (I was under the impression the drab gray of the Bottlenose Dolphin was something of a standard.) But as you can see with Delphinus delphis black counter-shaded with with and orange is in their striking appearance.
Also sometimes called the Common Dolphin, Delphinus delphis is distributed widely throughout the world's oceans, from as far north as the the coasts of Norway south to nearly the tip of South America. Unlike some marine mammals, the Short-Beaked Common Dolphin's numbers are thought to be in the millions, although they do face serious threats like climate change, overfishing and pollution. These gregarious mammals are often live n large, active schools, and can be seen jumping and splashing. They are often so loud they can be heard from a considerable distance. These dolphins feed primarily on squid and fish, which are caught using cooperative fishing methods like herding large shoals of fish.
