The Southern Painted Turtle line art version was created in 2005 and hand tinting added in 2007. The drawing is based on a photograph by Bill Love. I love the position of this reptile because it really shows off the lovely carapace of this reptile.
Southern Painted Turtles are predominantly found from Alabama to Southern Illinois. These turtles can be identified by the broad red, orangish, or yellow stripe down the middle of their carapace. They live in slow-moving permanent bodies of water, preferring a soft bottom with abundant aquatic plant life and places to bask such as rocks, logs, or floating vegetation.
