Artist's notes:

The Texas Earless Lizard was completed on 9.6.2011. I hadn't drawn a non-snake reptile in many months when I saw a video on YouTube about this amazing and beautiful lizard. I love the coloration on the side of the body, and like all other lizards it has that curious, wide eyed stare that seems to indicate intelligence and interest. Although that's probably not the case, but it's still fun to think of it as such. The drawing is based on an image by wildlife photographer Bob Barber.

Information about the Texas Earless Lizard:

The Texas Earless Lizard - a sub-species of the the Greater Earless Lizard is a reptile native to the arid deserts of North America, from the desert of Texas and New Mexico down into Mexico itself. They are called "earless" lizards because they and their close relatives have no external opening for the ears. They are diurnal and can be seek basking during the day, until the sun gets too hot and they retreat into a cool rock crevice or burrow to escape the heat.
